Thursday 5/15/2033: Wallace Hussein pitches his 3rd shutout of the season COLORADO - Great days are rare. But not for Colorado's right-hander Wallace Hussein. Washington found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 17th time he has done it in his career. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' Hussein (5-1) struck out an astounding 13 and walked 2, throwing 87 of 146 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Colorado was centerfielder Robert Rone, he stroked 3 hits in 4 AB, hitting a homerun. Colorado improved its record to 23-18, scoring 4 runs on 7 hits. |
Wednesday 5/14/2033: Huge blow for New York (N)'s Velazquez, career over NEW YORK (N) - It was one of baseball saddest days. New York (N)'s left-hander Joaquin Velazquez fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against Colorado on Wednesday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Alva Shows, then suddenly collapsed. Velazquez was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Ruptured Disc Back. In 11 starts this year Joaquin struck out 67 batters in 64.2 innings of work. His ERA is 5.98, his record 3-4. His career featured a record of 154-167 with an ERA of 4.49. Baseball will certainly miss this great player. |
Tuesday 5/13/2033: Camilo Bernal (Pit) will miss 5-6 weeks PITTSBURGH - When it rains, it pours. Pittsburgh's right-hander Camilo Bernal will not pitch for at least 5-6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against St. Louis where he left the field in the 1st inning. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Herniated Disc Back which will require surgery. His ERA of 3.61 helped him to a 5-1 record this year. He struck out 34 and walked 20 in 72.1 innings. Camilo has pitched one shutout and 3 complete games. |

Chicago (A)'s right-hander Herbert Seemann fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against Anaheim on Tuesday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Frank Bolen, then suddenly collapsed. Seemann was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Ruptured Disc Back. This season Seemann compiled an ERA of 9.11, going 1-9 in 10 starts. He fanned 25 while giving up 66 hits in 52.1 innings. His career featured a record of 10-19 with an ERA of 6.00. Baseball will certainly miss this great player. |
Monday 5/12/2033: Anaheim's Ortiz wins Player of the Week award Justin Ortiz of Anaheim wins his 1st Player of the Week award for dominating AL's hitters the entire week. Ortiz was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.56. Along the way he struck out 13 in 16 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. The NL's best player of the week was Chicago (N)'s Wyatt Speth, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. Speth was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00. Along the way he struck out 17 in 18 innings. He pitched two shutouts! His ERA of 3.45 helped him to a 6-2 record this year. He struck out 80 and walked 25 in 73 innings. He has 3 complete games and 2 shutouts. He's 5th in the NL in wins! |
Sunday 5/11/2033: Wyatt Speth fires 1-hitter against Milwaukee MILWAUKEE - Wyatt Speth had some fun again. Milwaukee hitters did not. Chicago (N)'s left-hander gave up just one hit in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 9 career shutouts in 291 games started. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Speth (6-2) struck out 9 and walked 1, throwing 62 of 105 pitches for strikes. Sunday 5/11/2033: James Petrey pitches his 2nd shutout of the season SEATTLE - James Petrey had his best stuff going, and Tampa Bay hitters were chanceless. Seattle's right-hander fired a 2-hitter, his 2nd shutout of the season. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Petrey (5-3) fanned 6 and walked 2, throwing 121 pitches. John Oliver provided Seattle with the offense Petrey needed as he got 3 hits in 4 AB, homering once, and collecting 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 5-0. |
Monday 5/5/2033: Washington's Lopez wins Player of the Week award It's the 1st time that the AL Player of the Week award goes to Seattle's second baseman Thad Parker. Thad pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .524 with 4 HR and 6 RBI while slugging 1.190. While compiling an on base percentage of .404, Thad hit .290 and slugged .591. He has collected 19 runs batted in this year. The NL Player of the Week award goes to Armando Lopez, Washington's starting shortstop. Armando pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .524 with 3 HR and 6 RBI while slugging 1.000. This year Lopez drove in 29 and scored 29 runs while batting .444 with 5 bombs. Sunday 5/4/2033: Oakland's Soto severely injured, out for season OAKLAND - Oakland's third baseman John Soto will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Oakland and Detroit. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Soto collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Torn Thigh Muscle which will require surgery. He has hit one bomb while batting .344 this season. His 31 hits and 5 walks add up to a .385 on-base percentage. |
Saturday 5/3/2033: James Ambrosino parks three against Arizona ARIZONA - Washington's centerfielder James Ambrosino flexed his muscles and displayed his tremendous power, homering three times in a 14-6 win over Arizona. A 381 foot drive to left field marked his 1st bomb, a solo homerun off Ray Harvard in the 3rd inning. His 2nd blast, a three-run homerun off John Murphy in the 4th inning, landed an estimated 418 feet from home plate. In the 6th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Christopher Naumann. Overall he went 4 for 5, scoring FOUR times and collecting 5 RBI. Washington scored 14 runs on 15 hits. |
Thursday 5/1/2033: Bonetti and Hetrick receive Pitcher of the Month award Benjamin Bonetti pitched like a legend in April, and the AL named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He went 7-0 in April and finished the month with an ERA of 2.34. He struck out 66 in 61.2 innings. Jeffrey Hetrick couldn't have pitched much better than he did in April, and the NL thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. His record of 5-1 in 7 was among the leagues best this month. In 58.2 innings of work he allowed just 42 hits while striking out 53, compiling an ERA of just 2.15. Jeffrey fired two shutouts! |
Thursday 5/1/2033: Batter of the Month award winners announced It's the 1st time that the AL Batter of the Month award goes to Minnesota's first baseman Jon Stjohn. He hit .379 with 41 RBI and slugged .810 in 116 at bats. Pittsburgh's rightfielder Derick Guiterrez had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the NL Batter of the Month. Derick went 39 for 104 (.375), while hitting 10 HR and collecting 31 RBI. |
Monday 4/28/2033: Colorado's Coll wins Player of the Week award The Player of the Week award in the AL goes to Minnesota's Emilio Lizardo this time, as the rightfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .524 with 10 RBI and slugged 1.000 in 21 at bats. Emilio is hitting .402 this year, with 35 hits in 87 at bats. He has driven in 29 runs, slugging .770. He's 2nd in the AL in batting and 4th in RBI! The Player of the Week award in the NL goes to Colorado's Cordell Coll this time, as the third baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .500 with 8 RBI and slugged 1.250 in 20 at bats. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 9 game hitting streak right now. |
Sunday 4/27/2033: Robert Noriega stars with cycle against Philadelphia PHILADELPHIA - Robert Noriega hits 'em where they ain't. Philadelphia certainly agrees as St. Louis' second baseman unloaded four hits and hitting for the cycle. Number 1 in the 1st inning accounted for a two-run double. Hit number 2 followed in the 2nd inning, a RBI triple. A single in the 3rd off Juan Ramos accounted for his 3rd hit. Number 4 in the 5th inning, a shot estimated at 367 feet, cleared the wall in right field. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Robert did drive in 4 while scoring 3 runs on his own. His 4 hit performance increases his batting average to .319. He becomes the 149th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. On 4/26/2033, Emilio Lizardo was the last player to hit for the cycle. |
Saturday 4/26/2033: Minnesota's Emilio Lizardo gets the cycle TAMPA BAY - Emilio Lizardo led Minnesota to a 12-7 win over Tampa Bay by squeezing four hits out of his bat. That's not the best part, though. He hit for the cycle as well! A single in the 1st off Robert Destefano accounted for his 1st hit. In the 3rd inning he unloaded a three-run homerun off Robert Destefano. His 3rd hit was a double off Iichirou Noritada in the 4th inning. His 4th hit was a two-run triple off Anthony Jolin in the 5th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Emilio scored 3 runs, and he collected 7 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .407. He becomes the 148th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. Wednesday 4/23/2033: Washington's Manny Acosta laces 2000th career hit WASHINGTON - Manny Acosta got a standing ovation from 10229 fans in Washington, who witnessed his 2000th career hit. He hit a single in the 7th off Inoichirou Toshiki for number 2000. In 13 years of big league action so far, Manny has compiled a batting average of .272, along with 224 homeruns and 1205 RBI. 'It's hard to believe that I did it. I want to thank my family, my friends and my teammates!' |
Tuesday 4/22/2033: Minnesota's Maselli out for 5 weeks MINNESOTA - When it rains, it pours. Minnesota's southpaw Johnnie Maselli will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Kansas City where he left the field in the 3rd inning. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Bicep Muscle. Monday 4/21/2033: Anaheim's Bolen wins Player of the Week award Frank Bolen from Anaheim wins his 6th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the AL. In 23 at bats he hit .435 with 5 HR and 13 RBI. Enrique Olivo wins his 8th Player of the Week award. NL pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. In 25 at bats he hit .400 with 6 HR and 10 RBI. This year Olivo drove in 19 and scored 15 runs while batting .278 with 9 longballs. He's 7th in the NL in RBIs and 1st in homeruns! |
Sunday 4/20/2033: Alan Peppers quiets New York (N) bats with shutout ATLANTA - Atlanta's right-hander Alan Peppers is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. New York (N) found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Peppers 1st shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 31st shutouts in his career. Peppers (4-0) fanned 4 and walked 1, throwing 95 pitches. 'Things like that happen. You take the mound and everything works. My velocity was pretty good today and I guess it showed.' The hitting star for Atlanta was rightfielder David Lorenzen, he collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, hitting a homerun, scoring two runs with 2 RBI. Atlanta scored 9 runs on 11 hits. |
Wednesday 4/16/2033: Enrique Olivo blisters three bombs CHICAGO (N) - Enrique Olivo powered Chicago (N) to a 11-8 win over Houston. He did it in style by homering three times. A 448 foot drive to left-center marked his 1st bomb, a two-run homerun off Michael Creason in the 1st inning. A pitch from Michael Creason in the 3rd inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 441 feet from home plate in left field. His 3rd blast, a solo homerun off Santiago Zamora in the 6th inning, landed an estimated 374 feet from home plate. Overall he finished with 3 hits in 5 AB, scoring three times with 4 RBI. |
Monday 4/14/2033: Keith Fly (TB) will miss 4-5 weeks TAMPA BAY - When it rains, it pours. Tampa Bay's right-hander Keith Fly will not pitch for at least 4-5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Toronto where he left the field in the 5th inning. Tampa Bay wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Fly had suffered a Pulled Bicep Muscle. Keith has a record of 0-1 this season, with an ERA of 5.14. In 21 Innings he was able to strike out 18 batters. |
Monday 4/14/2033: Minnesota's Stjohn wins Player of the Week award The AL Player of the Week award goes to Jon Stjohn, Minnesota's starting first baseman. Jon went 15 for 31 (.484), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 13 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 10 game hitting streak right now. Javier Barbosa wins his 12th Player of the Week award. NL pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Javier was on fire, hitting .571 with 4 HR and 12 RBI. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! He has hit 5 homeruns while batting .465 this season. His 20 hits and 13 walks add up to a .596 on-base percentage. Monday 4/7/2033: Kansas City's Charneco wins Player of the Week award The Player of the Week award in the AL goes to Kansas City's Dan Charneco this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Dan was on fire, hitting .500 with 3 HR and 11 RBI. Armando Lopez wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. NL pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Armando pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .630 with 0 HR and 6 RBI while slugging .778. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. |
Thursday 4/3/2033: San Diego's Orsini severely injured SAN DIEGO - San Diego's Joseph Orsini suffered a serious injury Thursday in a game against Colorado. Orsini fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 4-5 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Abdominal Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. |
Wednesday 4/2/2033: James Daniels drills 6 hits COLORADO - James Daniels punished Colorado's pitching today, collecting six hits in 6 AB. That definitely helped San Francisco, they won the game 12 to 0. A RBI double off Donald Ashcraft in the 2nd inning accounted for his 2nd hit. A double off Byron Synder in the 6th inning accounted for his 4th hit. He had singles in the 1st inning , in the 4th , in the 7th (one RBI) and in the 9th inning . James did drive in 2 while scoring 4 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 7 hits in 15 at bats, resulting in a .467 batting average. |
